(Filming the Running Scene)

We decided to film in a park and have Becky run several times, to get different angles and shots, some were medium shots,  close ups and long shots.  This enabled us to show the viewer different aspects and views of the environment and the actress as she runs through a darkened place alone although continuity was a slight issue as she had to wear shoes to run outside which in the previous Attic scene she wasn't but our main concern was for the safety of the actress and we don't really see her feet so it wasn't a major issue.

Once we started to put the footage from the attic scene into the music video it started to come together and even though Adeline and I thought that it might not work, it actually broke down the footage of the tea party making it more intense and self-explanatory but we still had the sense of wonder in the video. we managed to perfect the clips we added in but once we put more footage in it altered the placement of the clips so that they weren't necessarily where we wanted them to be but they worked perfectly still. It was important to us that the actress (Becky's) emotions were evident and in these clips they were, the lighting was perfect and Becky portrayed innocence and vulnerability to the audience well which is what we wanted. however, after adding in these clips we still had about a minute left of footage to find, so we discussed it and we thought we should have Becky running in the dark, as if she is running away from everything she's ever known and breaking free from those lies she's been told. Just running away from everything really.

(Filming the Attic Scene)

For the attic scene again everything was dark, and the lighting that was used was bright enough so that we could see everything but dark enough so that it still had that element of eerie-ness about it. It was based on my idea of flashbacks so that she could remember what life used to be like before she could see through them and their lie, although we didn't make it flashbacks it was still supposed to be running through her head as she is at the tea party with them. The photographs of the actors were used from previous activities to show them in a sort of natural environment, It was important that the photos didn't look fake otherwise it would of ruined what we were trying to portray. we thought it would be good for the lead actress (Becky) to flick through a book and all these photos would be in this book, and it would kind of make the audience relate to the sort of sense, that when someones lied to you how it feels, especially when its someone you're close to, its that sort of anger that we wanted to portray not physical anger but emotional and that is shown by how she burns some pictures, its sort of saying well in relation to the lyrics 'This is your ending scene' and how lying always hurts someone, and how people can get enthralled by others lies, and addicted to the sort of dream, that isn't necessarily existing but you want to believe them, you want to be in this dream that someone has made you believe in. And I think that is an very important part of our music video is that everyone can sort of relate to the actress (Becky's) emotions and actions.

(Uploading the Tea Party Footage)

Once we got into Sixth form on the Monday after filming we proceeded immediately with uploading our footage, however, The Apple Mac, would not let us import anything as it was saying the storage space was full up on it, so we needed to call our sixth-form's IT department down to take a look at it and after much dedication we were able to upload our footage from all three cameras. We began to watch the footage and decided which bits were not going to work as we started putting footage with the song to see how the footage goes with the music. I suggested that as the song at the starts pace is fast, we could have the faces with 'Liar' flash up to make it look interesting and sort of make you really watch the video as it will make you wonder what is going to happen next. We discussed this and decided that rather than have the faces going really quickly and just flashing up, we could have the faces tilt and do a sort of shot reverse shot on one of the faces and then a pan on the other one. making it appear in time with the music.

When we were filming we had a piece of paper with the bands name on it, it was stained in teabags, left to dry then crumpled up making it appear old and worn, this was an important part of our music video as it opened up the video it is the first shot, when editing we added a flash effect to the paper making it work in time and relation to the song, which is very fasted paced at the beginning and throughout the song. We kept placing clips of the tea party footage into the song, but after much discussion between us, we decided we needed something else another element to break up the footage making it more enjoyable to watch as opposed to watching a tea party for 3 minutes and 13 seconds, as it would become dull and boring which is not what either of us wanted and neither did the band. We agreed that we should have a book and in this book there would be pictures of the people who attended the tea party and it would also contain lyrics from the song, as we felt the lyrics were meaningful and emphasis  on them wouldn't be a negative thing.

When Adeline and I met on the Saturday afternoon we spent a few hours setting it up making her conservatory look homely, I think I blew up around 40 balloons to ensure we had enough for the whole room and we lit some tea lights making the dark atmosphere appear slightly lit for our eerie expectations. once the others started to arrive they helped us with anything left to do, for example make the brownie mix and dress the table with cake, we also put red lipstick on all the girls making the lips stand out, and also used the same lipstick when we wrote liar on the actors heads, this kind of made the story a little more obvious but not to obvious it still had that element of confusion and it kept you wondering and that was what we aimed to do.
The actors were truly amazing and such a joy to work with, they acted professionally and were really good at listening to instructions and feedback on what we wanted them to do. There were a few things we went over repeatedly but that was to ensure angles and shots were precise. as you can see in the clip above Emily has the word 'LIAR' wrote across her forehead, we explains more as we progressed through the video.

(Analysis of Footage and new ideas)

After looking over our footage we filmed previously we decided that it would be increasingly difficult to film the whole music video/ a large proportion of it in one go as doors and stairs would be an issue and lip syncing correctly would be too time consuming for the time we have available. So we decided to scrap the 'Against the ropes' song and footage and focus on ideas for 'Casablanca was a disaster movie' after the lesson me and Adeline kept in contact via email to express any ideas that we may have for it.

The next idea we both agreed on was a sort of tea party scene,  where we have 5 people at a tea party but one is shadowed out and ignored in a way, isolated from the rest of the group. the plot of our idea is Liar as the song has reference to lying and an example of the lyrics are 'Your poor reason bleeds attention, a broken heart and a guilty conscience'. As the lyrics had reference to that we thought the music video should be dark and only really illuminated by candle or torch light making things appear eerier, when we compiled all of the footage together. So we decided to ask some friends if they would be interested in being in our music video because, we need some people who have quite close relationships to see the break down of that in the video. We asked everyone to bring some cake and agreed to meet at Adelines house on a Saturday night to film, in the dark.
